ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Ahmad Achtar studied at the Muslim College (London) and The School of Oriental and African Studies of University of London specialising in Qur’anic Studies, and taught on various courses in Islamic studies and Arabic language at the Muslim College, Leo Baeck College, SOAS and Open Theological College; University of Gloucestershire. Ahmad recently worked as an academic advisor for the Islamic Studies programme at Birkbeck London University. His main research interest is metaphor and anthropomorphism in the Qur'an. He lectures on Islamic Studies at Heythrop College, University of London.

Anuradha Dooney has travelled extensively in Europe, Russia and India, teaching on various courses and serving as the main curriculum writer for religious education courses in UK and Belgium. Anuradha is currently a faculty member of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, Continuing Education Department. She teaches in London, Birmingham, Oxford, Cambridge, and Leicester.

Jonathan Gorsky lectures in Judaism and Christian-Jewish Relations at Heythrop College, University of London, and was previously Education Adviser for the Council of Christians and Jews before coming to Heythrop College in 2006.

Philip Endean SJ formerly taught Systematics, Spirituality and Pastoral Theology at Heythrop College, as well as being editor of The Way. As former Course Director of Living Theology, he set up the management committee. He now teaches Theology at Campion Hall, University of Oxford.

 

ABOUT THE PANEL MEMBERS

Martin Ganeri OP lectures on Christianity and Interreligious Relations at Heythrop College, University of London, and also on World Religions at the Dominican Studium in Oxford, and works for the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales. He is a specialist in Hindu cosmology and Ramanuja, and his current interests include comparative religion. He has written a number of articles on Catholic approaches to Hinduism and Islam.

John McDade SJ is Principal of Heythrop College, University of London, where he has lectured in Systematic Theology since 1985, and he is responsible for developing their Diploma in Christian-Jewish Relations and the MA in Contemporary Theology in the Catholic Tradition. During his teaching, he became interested in the new theology of Christian-Jewish Relations and its impact on Christian theology. John was formerly editor of The Month for 9 years.
