Following the success in 2010 of our first event at Allen Hall, we are pleased to announce we will be holding this again in 2011 at the slightly earlier dates of Friday 24th June to Monday 27th June. Living Theology Allen Hall is a collaboration between Allen Hall and Living Theology Summer School which is designed to appeal principally to all who are seeking answers to the many questions and challenges to their Catholic faith raised by life in the 21st century.
Last year's participants were very enthusiastic and complimentary about the courses, and they also made some helpful suggestions which we have acted upon. One of these was that everyone should have lunch together as a group, so this year lunch will also be included for non-residents as well as for residents.
About the Event
Participants can choose from either:
- Residential (including accommodation, all meals, choice of courses,3 plenary lectures, evening entertainment)
- Non-residential (choice of courses & 3 plenary lectures including lunch, but NO accommodation).
- Plenary lectures only
Residential and non-residential participants choose ONE of the two courses from Group A, and ONE of the two courses from Group B which they follow throughout the weekend. Classes are in the style of informal lectures and seminars, with opportunity for questions and discussion. Please note that the courses are on-going for the 4 days, and are not 4 repeats of the same lecture. The three Plenary lectures will be the same for everyone, and can be attended separately.
Course tutors and Plenary lecturers have been chosen for their expertise and experience, and we can promise you a stimulating and exciting weekend. The optional Liturgies will include daily Mass and Morning Prayer (Allen Hall has its own Chapel), and there will be evening entertainment.

Why should you come along?
Every day, whether we realise it or not, in the workplace, in the home, in the media, in the people we meet, our Catholic beliefs and values are constantly being challenged. Our world is continually changing, affecting many aspects of our lives and relationships with others. It is impossible to avoid it. All around us secular society urges us to ignore what many think of as old-fashioned teachings, to lower our standards, make compromises, and to forget what it means to be Catholics. Is abortion ever right, should we get married or just live together, is praying just talking to oneself, and what relevance does a two-thousand year old book have for us today are just a few of the issues that confront us. Many people think going to church is boring, and celebrities are more exciting role models than saints. Our beliefs are being openly challenged, until bit by bit we find that we too may start to have doubts about whether being a Catholic really matters to our lifestyle choices. Our faith and the Teaching of the Church are there to guide us in both our working and personal lives whenever we need to make ethical or moral choices and decisions.
Or perhaps you were never quite sure about what the Church actually teaches on some subjects and would welcome the opportunity for some guidance and the opportunity to talk it through, and hear the opinion of others in an open and non-judgemental way, and to connect your faith with your life.
Well whichever one you are, this is your chance! Living Theology Allen Hall 2010 offers you 4 days in which to explore these issues in relaxed and comfortable surroundings, and hopefully you will be able to go away with perhaps not all the answers, but at least knowing a little more than when you came.
Anyone who cannot or does not wish to attend the full programme is very welcome to come along in the late afternoon for the Plenary Lectures only. (See booking form for cost).
